Camille A. Brown

Camille A. Brown (born 1979) is an American contemporary dancer and choreographer. She received her B.F.A. in Dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and performed with Ronald K. Brown/Evidence from 2001–2007. She has also appeared as a guest artist with companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Brown is the first woman to win the Princess Grace Foundation-USA Award for Choreography.[1] She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the NYFA Fellowship in Choreography, and was named a Presidential Scholar of the Arts. Brown has created works for companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Hubbard Street II, Urban Bush Women, and Ballet Memphis, as well as for collegiate institutions such as Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and Princeton University. She has served as an Adjunct Professor of Dance at both Long Island University and Barnard College, and has completed residencies at various other universities and summer dance festivals. Her company, Camille A. Brown & Dancers, debuted in 2006. In her work, Brown "...presents the dancing body as a vehicle for overt religious celebration" and "... mixes modern dance techniques with West African dance elements" to create her own unique movement style.[2]
